Meow and Matcha
Meow and Matcha is a cozy cat cafe to curl up with a book and cuddle with your feline friends. This project allowed me to design an entire restaurant themed brand including a full branding guide. Portions of the guide can be seen below.
For this project, I decided to create a cat cafe brand. I pursued this type of restaurant/eatery because it is not as common in the West as it is in Asia, and many cat cafes that I found in my research had very minimal branding and collateral. I wanted this business to feel cute, cozy, and relaxing to customers. This meant adding softer colors like light pinks and blues, creating a cute and simple cat mascot, and a simple menu that customers can understand. I wanted to design a cute cat sitting in a coffee cup with a more stylized sans serif font to give a more homey and not too formal feel.
Creating mockups really helped me understand how collateral can make or break a design’s composition and colors. I also just enjoyed playing around with the look of items like pens and t-shirts.
Style Guide and Identity Package
I wanted to design this style guide to have the same feel as the cafe itself- cute, inviting, relaxed, and soft. I made sure to use the same colors throughout the entire guide and made the text and visuals large enough so that it was easy to understand. Deciding what examples to use for the Do Not’s in the logo, typography, and color sections were my favorite to make. There were so many possibilities for mistakes you could show in the examples and it was interesting to look at the other branding guides to get an idea of what to not do.
